Identify purpose of 11.1.3.5.2
11.1.3.5.2 is the closed functionality version of WCAG SC "1.3.5 Identify input purpose". It requires a mode of operation where input fields can be presented in audio form.
This requirement, obviously, is related to the intent of the WCAG SC - to ensure that user agents can extract and present the purpose of an input field to users using different modalities.
However, the WCAG SC has a broader range of benefits than 11.1.3.5.2, especially including reduced need for manual input for people with motor impairments, and potentially even cognitive accessibility improvements (using icons or plain language). Would it be possible to reflect more of that even when there's closed functionality?
And isn't the one benefit that 11.1.3.5.2 DOES bring already secured by "11.3.3.2 Labels or instructions", at least in combination with "11.1.1.1 Non-text content"?
If so, what is the purpose of 11.1.3.5.2?
Another issue with 11.1.3.5.2: It applies "Where ICT is non-web software that provides a user interface and is closed to assistive technologies". That is a very wide scope. Usually in the EN, such a formulation is followed by "for screen reading" or a similar qualification. By glancing at the corresponding "open functionality" requirement 11.1.3.5.1 the reader may conclude that even here, screen reading is meant. But there's no such formulation if you just read the clause on its own.
