Clarify how to audit web components in hybrid apps
Ilias Bennani from DIGG (the regulator responsible for WAD monitoring in Sweden) has sent this question:
Right now, we are reviewing an Android app. Parts of the app include web views, but there are also many views that are native to Android.
Question: When reviewing views in the app that are composed of web pages, should we refer to chapter 9 or 11?
I understand that web content should be reviewed as web content because it is web content. However, for the user, it becomes difficult to know what to expect from an app if they also have to know which technology is used in different parts of the same app in order to understand how to interact.
For the user, it's simply an app that should function as mobile apps usually do. The user should be able to expect consistent interaction throughout the app.
Requirements for tab focus, dark mode, support for assistive devices, keyboard, etc., should be the same.
If we review the app according to chapter 11, but not for the parts that use web views or any other technology that may not be covered by EN301549, it becomes very confusing. Both for us as reviewers and for the user.
