Clarifying and Correcting Annex B Content and Structure

REFERENCE: Annex B, Introductory Information

The introductory text in Annex B currently describes a table structure—previously Table B.2—that mapped EN clauses to the Functional Performance Statements (FPS). However, this table no longer appears in the document. Instead, the current Table B.2 maps EN clauses to the POUR principles from WCAG, creating confusion about whether this was an intentional replacement or an omission. The discrepancy between the descriptive text and the actual content, as well as the apparent absence of the FPS mapping table, may lead to inconsistent interpretations and use of Annex B.

PROPOSED CHANGE

Depending on the decision regarding the status of FPS content (see related comment on Clause 4.2), implement one of the following approaches:

If FPS clauses are retained and marked as optional:

  • Add back the original FPS mapping table into Annex B.
  • Decide where POUR table belongs (in another Annex or in Annex B) and ensure its presence
  • If both FPS and POUR tables are in Annex B, renumber the POUR mapping table as “B.3” and rename Annex B to something like: “Relationship of requirements clauses to functional performance statements and POUR principles”.

If FPS mapping is no longer to be included:

  • Remove the introductory text and Table B.1 that describe the FPS mapping table and how to use it.
  • Update any other references in the document (e.g., Introduction, bullet 6) that describe Table B.2 as an FPS mapping.
  • Delete the FPS example tables that appear after Table B.2.

These changes will ensure the content of Annex B is accurate, internally consistent, and clearly aligned with the intended structure and purpose.
