DE: Comments on 7.1.2 Captioning synchronization (Tab 7, Item 2, row 3)

Submitted on behalf of Digital Europe as part of #55 (closed).

7.1.2 Captioning synchronization

Where ICT displays captions, the mechanism to display captions shall preserve synchronization between the audio and the corresponding captions as follows: • Captions in recorded material: within 100 ms of the time stamp of the caption. • Live captions: within 100 ms of the availability of the caption to the player.

DE Comments:

Standard function of TV. However +/-100ms requirement is very challenging and may not be met by current devices.

Note: the 100ms requirement is not technically possible.

Note: there is no timing requirement for audio description (7.2.2 and 7.2.3).
